The majority of my painting holidays at www.Painting-Holidays-France.com are based in the Languedoc-Roussillon, now called Occitanie, south west France, the biggest wine producing region in France.
What is the area like?
It’s probably the best kept secret if you’re looking for the real south of France. We are positioned in a golden triangle formed from Beziers to Carcassonne to Narbonne making it full of variety offering you long sandy beaches, mountains, flowing vineyards, pretty villages and history by the bucketful.
Marvel at the imposing ancient Cathar castles, the peaceful Canal du Midi, Carcassonne with its medieval walled city and the ancient villages, abbeys, underground caves, fishing ports and Roman remains, the list is endless. Many of the historic towns and villages are well known: Pézénas, Agde, Perpignan, Montpellier . . . . and with Spain less than two hours away, you can also visit the Salvador Dali museum at Figueras for an artistic fix.
The climate is one of the best in France, with an average 2750 hours/300 days of sun each year and an average rainfall less than that of Provence. The summers are sunny and hot, the Spring and Autumn colourful and the Winters dry and mild. Well, most of the time! Regional weather.
